Dr. Michael J. Freeman serves as Senior Manager of Communications and Marketing at United Lutheran Seminary, where he leads efforts to strengthen the Seminary’s public voice, extend its reach, and support its mission through clear, strategic communication.
Dr. Freeman brings extensive experience in higher education, nonprofit, and ministry contexts, with a professional focus on strategic communications, program development, and institutional storytelling. He previously founded and led a communication department at the collegiate level, guiding it from initial concept through full accreditation while aligning academic programming with institutional priorities in enrollment, advancement, and student success.
In addition to his work in higher education, Dr. Freeman is the founder and principle of MJF Strategic Communication Consulting, where he partners with nonprofit organizations, ministries, and educational institutions to develop messaging strategies, website content, and communication systems that advance mission-driven work.
At United Lutheran Seminary, his work centers on translating the Seminary’s theological scholarship, formation, and public engagement into accessible, compelling content that serves both the Church and the broader public. He is particularly interested in helping institutions extend the impact of their work beyond individual events through thoughtful, integrated communication strategies.
Dr. Freeman holds advanced degrees in communication and education and brings a commitment to clarity, collaboration, and mission-centered storytelling in all aspects of his work.
