Master of Arts in Ministerial Leadership

The Master of Arts in Ministerial Leadership (MAML) program will prepare you for leadership service in the church. In the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the program works in conjunction with students’ synod candidacy committee in preparation for rostering as a deacon, or a minister of Word and Service. This degree, normally a two-year program when taken full-time, requires a total of 51 academic credits, plus contextual formation experiences and additional non-credit requirements. If the degree is not completed within four years, the student must petition the faculty for continuation in the degree program.

Through a variety of specializations, MAML prepares students to:

  • Nurture communities grounded in the Word of God
  • Equip and lead communities to participate in God's ongoing work in the world
  • Foster communities of Christian care
  • Oversee the organizational life of communities
  • Lead communities through transformational change grounded in the gospel
  • Model wellness in personal and professional life.
