“for I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you welcomed me,”
What does it mean to welcome the stranger? How do our congregations live out this gospel call? How do we as leaders guide our congregations in conversation, learning and serving around welcoming the stranger? What is a Sanctuary Denomination?
The Outreach Team of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) seeks to fulfill the LIRS vision of “protecting, embracing and empowering migrants and refugees” by engaging congregations in discerning their response to God’s call to love the neighbor and welcome the stranger, and by equipping people of faith to respond to their call to offer welcome and refuge. LIRS, in partnership with United Lutheran Seminary, bring you the Summer Institute for Ministry: The Biblical Call to Offer Welcome
Participants at the Summer Institute for Ministry will be equipped with experiences and resources around the Biblical call to offer welcome in:
· Leading worship
· Leading Advocacy action
