Pastor Derick Brennan, a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is blessed to share life and ministry with his wife, Attorney Alberta Brennan, who is also a successful real estate investor. Together, they are the proud parents of one son, David.

A prolific preacher, teacher, and communicator of God’s Word, Pastor Brennan has ministered across South America, Europe, and the Caribbean, proclaiming the gospel with clarity, conviction, and compassion. He holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, with a concentration in Organizational Leadership. He also earned a Master of Divinity degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University. His academic achievements are complemented by extensive professional experience, including business consulting for major corporations.

Pastor Brennan began his pastoral journey at Second Canaan Baptist Church in Harlem, New York, where he faithfully served until 2006. He now serves as Senior Pastor of Canaan Baptist Church in Germantown, his home congregation—a thriving, intergenerational ministry serving infants through mature adults.

Under Pastor Brennan’s leadership, Canaan completed a seven-year, $2.4 million capital campaign—above and beyond its operational budget—funding the renovation of the historic sanctuary, the acquisition of adjacent property, and the development of three contiguous church-owned properties. His visionary leadership also birthed The GEM Fund, an endowment designed to sustain Canaan’s long-term mission and witness. In addition, Pastor Brennan oversaw the establishment of the Canaan Family Life Center, a 501(c)(3) human services ministry that serves the church, community, and surrounding neighborhoods.

Through his commitment to community impact, Pastor Brennan has built strategic partnerships with regional philanthropies to serve the disadvantaged—addressing housing insecurity, youth mentoring, legal advocacy, food and clothing distribution, elder care, family support for the incarcerated, and global mission efforts in Uganda.

A respected voice in ministry and leadership, Pastor Brennan serves as an advisor to the Urban Theological Institute at Lutheran Theological Seminary, is a former Vice Moderator of the Pennsylvania Eastern Keystone Baptist Association, a participant in the Lott Carey Pastoral Excellence Program, and a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

One of Pastor Brennan’s guiding scriptures is Isaiah 61:1: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners.”
