Public Services Library Assistant

Full-Time Position

Location:                Philadelphia  

Salary Range:            $38,000- $43,000 annually

Position Purpose

Position reports to the Library Director and Archivist of the Krauth Branch of the United Lutheran Seminary Library and Archives.  Position functions as library circulation student supervisor, performs periodicals management, and library administrative-clerical work.

Essential Responsibilities

Serves as primary Circulation Desk attendant:

·      Operates specialized library software

·      Processes intercampus requests

Supervises student workers

·      In coordination with the director, posts job descriptions, interviews and hires student workers

·      Processes time sheets for student workers

·      Manages periodical services

Maintains Course Reserves

Processes materials for storage and disposal

Copies catalog gift materials

Assists Library Director in administrative tasks

Performs other tasks, including Cataloging, as assigned or required

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to use the various software programs required by the position: Microsoft Office, Database programs, and library-specific software

Ability to operate email and internet searching

Ability to lift, bend, and reach; ability to maneuver boxes o fbooks weighing up to 25 pounds

Ability to load and push a full book cart

Ability to communicate effectively with the public, using tact and firmness as required when interacting with students, faculty, and staff of diversebackgrounds

Ability to work independently, as well as in a team-based, multi-campus environment

Strong attention to detail, and good organizational skills

 

Required Education and Experience

High School Diploma and a minimum of three years library-related clerical experience which included circulation duties and patron assistance.  Associate degree in office/business management or related area preferred.
